Shane Van Boening (;^[two] born July 14, 1983) is an American professional puddle player from Rapid City, South Dakota. He is the current number 1 ranked player in the World Rankings published by the Matchroom Puddle and has the 2nd highest fargo rating made up of over 200,000 puddle players. Van Boening is a winner of over 100 professional titles.

Van Boening has a hearing impairment and uses a hearing aid, simply information technology does not touch on his pool ability.^[3] He has received praise for his attitude towards the sport, partially for his behavior during matches, and for eschewing alcohol.^[4]

Professional career [edit]

Van Boening has a family background in puddle. His granddad, Gary Bloomberg, was a pull a fast one on-shot creative person; his grandmother, Jeanne Bloomberg, a VNEA national champion; his female parent, Timi Bloomberg, a BCA national champion; and his aunt, Gari Jo Bloomberg, a three-fourth dimension VNEA national champion.

Van Boening defeated Hungarian Vilmos Foldes at the International Pool Tour qualifier in 2006, and was one of several players to earn a bonus of US$5,000 for breaking and running half-dozen consecutive racks in tournament play. He was 1 of 10 players to earn their IPT bout card by finishing in the height two spots of one of five qualifiers, and won the 2d spot held at the Pool Room in Atlanta, Georgia.^[5] He has been ranked number i in the world by AZBilliards.com. He practices at Lucky Billiards in Sioux Falls, where he is the house pro and co-owner.^[six]

Van Boening is a three-time VNEA national apprentice eight-ball champion.^[seven] In 2007, he reached the last of the BCA Open Ix-brawl Championship, losing to Dennis Orcollo.^[viii] A few days later, he won the UPA Globe Ten-ball Championship,^[9] ^[10] becoming the first-always ten-ball earth champion.

In 2007, Van Boening was tipped by Inside POOL Magazine as a possible future best pool player in the US.^[11] Van Boening captured the hot seat in the Globe Summit of Pool on June 16, 2007, chirapsia 2004 WPA Men's World Nine-ball Champion Alex Pagulayan 11–iv. On the final day, all matches were shortened to all-time of 13 as they were being recorded by ESPN. Pagulayan beat Francisco Bustamante and Warren Kiamco to face Van Boening in the final. Van Boening came back from 4–1 backside to tie the score five–5, before Pagulayan won the next 2 games win, 7–5.^[12]

Mark Griffin, owner of the Billiards Congress of America Pool League, began sponsoring Van Boening in 2007.^[xiii] On October twenty, 2007, Van Boening won the 32nd U.s. Open Nine-ball Championship, defeating Filipino champion Ronnie Alcano in the finals past xiii–x. Van Boening remained undefeated in the double-emptying format of the championship, held in Chesapeake, Virginia. At the Reno Open Nine-ball Championship on December 9, 2007, Van Boening and Johnny Archer were in the double-emptying finals. Archer was undefeated until so, and Van Boening had to crush him twice; Van Boening won the first set up, and 83 minutes later, claimed the championship.^[xiv]

Van Boening has been a regular feature of TAR broadcasts and has won 10 of the xv appearances he has fabricated at that place.^{[ citation needed ]} He has been named "Player of the Year" past the Billiards Assimilate Mag in 2007, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014.^[15] ^[xvi] In 2020, he was named "Role player of the Decade" for the 2010s by the Billiards Digest Magazine.^{[ commendation needed ]}

In April 2022, Van Boening won the 2022 WPA World Nine-ball Title.^[17]
